Bach Stradivarius 184SML Silver Shepherd's Crook Cornet
The only professional cornet we are currently offering for sale! This is a Bach Stradivarius 184SML silver horn! This is the shepherd’s crook version, which is a bit warmer than the more common 181 model, and much harder to find on the used market. S/n 5877XX. Very good condition: silver is a little dull but about 96% with very light wear and imperfections here and there after minor past repairs and small dent removals. Just through the shop where it was chem cleaned, detergent cleaned, hand-polished, lubed, and had new tuning slide O-rings, water key corks, stop rod bumper and nuts installed. All tuning slides and the first-valve trigger are free, including the third-valve dump slide—which itself is actually brand new. Valves are fast and smooth with very good compression. Plays very nicely, though I’m not quite used to cornets to comment authoritatively about slotting and response. Note that this is oiled with SYNTHETIC oil, and you should do the same or thoroughly clean the pistons and casings prior to switching to a petroleum-based oil. No mouthpiece included as everyone has their favorite, but we have dozens for sale separately. Comes in a $350 leather Gard suspension system bag in good condition with shoulder/backpack strap, extra rain cover, and external zippered pocket. If you prefer it without the case, we can accept $150 less. Sells new for $3,609, so save about than $2,000, get one of the best gig bags available, and snatch up one of the nicest Strad cornets you’ll find on the used market!
